Love.
It is a word tossed around so lightly yet has such a heavy meaning behind it. We are so caught up in this weightless version of what we define love to be.
No commitment.
No action.
No promise.
Just words.
But the truth is…
Love is commitment.
Love is action.
Love is a promise.
Love is a GIFT.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi he wrote “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ…” -Philippians 1:9-10
Paul wrote for love to abound in 2 areas:
- In knowledge (of Jesus)
- In depth of insight (moral discernment)
That tells us 2 very important things:
- Jesus has A LOT (or everything) to do with love and the more we love Him the more capacity we have to love.
- Love affects the way we live – our actions, our words, our decisions, and ultimately our way of life
Love infiltrates our lives, it takes over our minds, and it should be pouring out of all that we say and all that we do. We need a deeper knowledge of Jesus for our love to grow because HE IS LOVE.
He left heaven (wrap your mind around that…He left HEAVEN) to come to earth only to die an excruciating death on the cross that He did not deserve so that our sins would be forgiven forever. We must decide to turn from the ways of this world and turn towards Him confessing that He is Lord so that we can live eternally with Him.
THAT is love.
So, as we enjoy the Christmas season anticipating the arrival of our Savior let us love. Let us love through our actions, through our words, through long lines at the stores, and traffic in every lane. Let our love become a verb that turns into actions that spreads the Christmas cheer and the arrival of our True Love.
Truth at Advent. 🙌
